Review of Aldo Nova by Aldo Nova

Dust it off!

We all have songs that no matter how old they are and how often we have heard them, we just have to crank them up.  How about “Fantasy” by Aldo Nova?  The sound of helicopters and a thunderous guitar riff are a great way to start the album off!  It’s not hard to imagine why this was such a big hit but unfortunately the rest of the self titled album Aldo Nova comes up short with the exception of the ballad “Ball and Chain“.  I feel this particular song could have been huge.  It has a great hook and chorus but didn’t seem to get any airplay.

Hot Love“, “Heart to Heart” and “Foolin Yourself” have good potential but just seem to lack strong lyrics and good melodies, but they are listenable.  There is no doubt Mr. Nova is an awesome guitarist.  He even played guitar on Bon Jovi’s hit song “Runaway“, but I don’t feel it showcased his talent enough.  Comparing this album to other albums of the 80’s, it doesn’t have any, what I like to call rock anthems or power ballads.  That’s what we all remember from this period.

For listenability, I would give this Aldo Nova  album a 6 out of 10.  I wouldn’t waste my money buying the album, but downloading “Fantasy” and “Ball and Chain” are worth the money.  If you already have this album in your music library, then dust it off and give these 2 songs another listen.  Keep rockin !
