Cadott Gets Poisoned! – Review from Rockfest ‘08 Show

CIMG2900I can’t think of another way to start the review than the title of the hit song “Nothin But A Good Time” to describe this show. Energy, pyro, guitar solos, drum solos, you name it, Poison delivered it. Opening up the show with always a crowd favorite, “Cat Dragged In“, I looked around and didn’t see one person sitting down. Even though they had played Rockfest four times in the past, Cadott was definitely ready for them again. “I Want Action“, “Ride The Wind” and “I Won’t Forget You” were the next three songs played followed by Poison’s rendition of the Romantics tune “What I Like About You” from their 2007 release “Poisoned“. After an awesome guitar solo by C.C., the band played a couple of more hits “Something To Believe In” and “Cry Tough”.

Now comes the part of the show that really suprised me. Being a long time fan of Poison, I knew that Bret Michaels was a harmonica player, but I didn’t know how good he really was. He played a harmonica solo that seemed to go on forever. Very impressive! All I have to say is watch out John Popper of Blues Traveler.

The classic hit “Your Mamma Don’t Dance” was next and was followed up with an outstanding drum solo by Rikki Rockett which featured him playing the bongos out in the center of the stage. They played the rest of their classics such as “Unskinny Bop”, “Fallen Angel”, “Talk Dirty To Me” and of course “Nothin But A Good Time”. At the end of “Every Rose Has It’s Thorn”, Bret made the comment that his dad paid $12.50 for one guitar lesson and that this is what he learned, he then played the last few chords of the song. If you ask me, it was money well spent!

Lots of pyro technics, video footage on the big screen behind the stage and confetti spraying the crowd during the encore made for a very high energy show that the crowd was completely engaged in. Bret Michaels also told the crowd early in the show that he likes to get up and personal with his fans so they were welcome to come right up to the stage and told security to let them. Poison also had a Meet ‘n’ Greet at Dewey’s Roadhouse in Chippewa Falls after the show. We didn’t go but if any of you did, let us know how it was.

For all you “Rock of Love” fans, Bret hinted that there would be a “Rock Of Love 3″ so keep an eye out for that. We had a great time and it was an awesome show.
