Review of KC and The Sunshine Band – RibAmerica Fest

Brian says I shouldn’t be writing this review because KC and The Sunshine Band isn’t rock music. Well I personally love KC and we went down to St. Louis a day early so I could go see him. I like so many different kinds of music and some music brings back very special memories for me. If the music make you feel good, does it matter what genre it is??

Back in the late 70’s and early 80’s in my home town, there was so much to do. The times were safer for children then also. I can remember taking off in the morning and not coming home until early afternoon. We were usually on our bikes, but I always had my roller skates on too! Not roller blades or inline skates, but good ole roller skates. The pedals of my bike fit right between the wheels perfectly. We would ride to the park and then skate all over downtown. When we got a little older we rode to the roller skating rink and this is where I discovered what I call “skating funk music”.

KC and The Sunshine Band had many hits which would fit in this category. “Shake Your Booty”, “That’s The Way I Like It”, “Get Down Tonight” and “Boogie Shoes” were some of my favorites. The DJ at the skating rink almost always played at least one of these songs every session that I went, and I went alot.

The show in St. Louis was very reminiscent for me. KC of course played all these big hits and then some. The dancers on stage were very talented and dressed in flashy costumes with feather boas. KC was all decked out in his bright colored jackets with rhinestones and glitz. His vocals were still wonderful although his appearance has changed somewhat. KC even joked that this is what Justin Timberlake is going to look like in 30 years. KC’s hair line has receeded and his waist line appeared a little larger. He still loves to entertain though. There were fans of all ages enjoying the show. I couldn’t help but dance to the beat. The best part is that the music took me back to a very carefree and happy time in my life. Oh to be 12 again……. That is what music is all about after all, right??

If you were a KC and The Sunshine Band fan back in the day, catch their show if you can. You won’t be disappointed.
