KORN at Rockfest 2009
Korn was the closing band on Sunday and Rockfest started on Thursday. So for the three days leading up to Sunday, I kept thinking to myself I wonder if Cadott, WI is ready for a band like Korn. Yeah, they have had some hard rockin bands before, but maybe not so loud and angry like Korn. Well, Cadott, WI proved ready for the challenge.
I’m not sure but possibly setting an attendance record, there had to be more people on the lawn than I have ever seen before! I was a little worried about the VIP seating because I didn’t think many of the older folks would care to see a band this hard but it was full. I think it was the train wreck effect, they just had to watch!
Korn definitely rocked the house with a mixture of old hits and some new ones. A bagpipe interlude was cool along with a sing-a-long or two especially “Y’all Want a Single” which if you are familiar with the words it provided a funny scene as 20,000 plus people sang “F$&k that, F$*k that !”
A couple more highlights for me were when they ripped into Metallica’s “One“, my favorite part which goes “Darkness imprisoning me….” The crowd erupted! I don’t think there was a head in the crowd that wasn’t banging at that point. Also the closing of the show with a couple of Pink Floyd numbers “Another Brick In The Wall” and “Goodbye Cruel World” provided an excellent finish to the show.
The only drawback was not letting anyone down close to the stage to get pictures. I think the officials at Rockfest might have been worried about some moshing going on. This was my third time seeing Korn and they just keep getting better and better. Who knows, maybe someday I’ll be able to sit on stage behind the band like the two young girls did for the entire show. I’m not sure but they might have been bass player Fieldy’s daughters. I already know, you don’t have to say it, I need to stop dreaming!!
