Naked Beggars Review
It has been awhile since we went to see the Naked Beggars. We started remodeling our kitchen the day after the show and I forgot to write about the show. Sorry! I don’t know how many of you have ever been to Taylorville, IL, but it is a very small town. (population around 11,000) The bar where the band played was bigger than I expected though.
The first band that played was Bad Monkey. They played cover tunes, but they also played a few original songs. I was not familiar with them at all so I’m not sure the names of any of the tracks. They were very entertaining with lots of energy. They were sort of 80’s rock and southern rock. The bass player was great. I found their Myspace page and I think the bass player goes by Big Dawg. They have a CD called Year of the Monkey but I’m not sure if it is available yet. You can listen to some of the tracks on their Myspace page.
As for Naked Beggars, we got the opportunity to speak with Eric Brittingham (bass player for Cinderella) before the band played. He is a very nice guy and I think he really enjoys playing music. I asked him if it was strange playing in such a small bar after playing at huge venues. He said, “the big venues pay the bills but this is fun.” He did tell us that Cinderella will be touring summer of 2008 with Warrant and that Jani Lane is back! Warrant’s Myspace page states the tour will kick off in July at Rocklahoma. We also bought the Naked Beggars’ new CD XXX and I really like it. It has a bluesy feel to it and catchy lyrics.
We unfortunately only got to hear their first set because we had to leave. Brian had to work early the next morning. (UGH!!) It was great. Inga has very powerful vocals. She did a beautiful rendition of Stevie Nicks’ Landslide. It gave me goosebumps. I love that song! She also did a rendition of Alanis Morissette’s Hand in My Pocket. The drummer is not the same one that played on the new CD XXX, but he sounded like he’d been playing with them for a long time. Did I mention that the show was free??
If you get a chance, go out and catch one of their shows. It will be worth your time !! While you’re at it, buy their CD. It will be worth your money !!

Good review. Where’s the trivia question? I want one of those killer t-shirts.
Take care,
Chad
Thanks! The trivia question is in the newsletter that you should receive on May 9, 2008. If you win the T-shirt, you have to wear it sometime while you’re playing the drums with Altered Ego!! See you soon.
