Review of Ace Frehley Anomaly Tour
Ace Frehley promoting his new album “Anomaly” played the Canopy Club on November 9th, 2009. The Canopy Club is a great little place to catch a show and not a bad seat in the house. Getting there early we were able to get a great spot to watch the Spaceman himself …and Ace did not disappoint!
Ace opened up with a “KISS” favorite “Shout It Out Loud” and the place went crazy! You could feel the energy in the place crank up about 10 notches! Ace’s set consisted of a mixture of “KISS” favorites, his “KISS” solo material, and a handful of the new songs off the “Anomaly” album.
Ace covered most of his older “KISS” solo material that as a lifelong Ace Frehley / Kiss fan I loved hearing…songs like “New York Groove”, “Snow Blind”, and “Ozone”. Off the new album Ace ripped out “Outer Space”, “Foxy &Free”, “Fox on the Run”, and “Sister”. In the middle of the set, Ace broke into a guitar solo that ended with what any true Ace fan would expect to see……the “SMOKING” guitar!!! I was a little disappointed that Ace did not play “Rock Soldiers” off the Frehley’s Comet album but he more than made up for that with his performance.
Ace has cleaned up his lifestyle, he’s back on the wagon, and the show he put on was evidence of it. Lots of energy and Ace and the band were tight musically. Speaking of his band, he has put together some top notch musicians to tour with. His new live band consists of Derek Hawkins (Guitar), Anthony Esposito (Bass), and Scot Coogan (Drums). Scot Coogan has played with “Brides Of Destruction”, and toured with “Lynch Mob”. Coogan blew me away with his vocals all night long…the man has range!!!
This is a concert that I will never EVER forget and as an Ace Frehley fan for over 25 years it makes it all the sweeter….LONG LIVE ACE!!!!!
