Review of Buckcherry at Rockfest 2009 – Tour & Ticket Info

Buckcherry at RockfestBuckcherryJosh ToddBuckcherry at Rockfest 2009Buckcherry was the third band to play in Sunday’s amazing lineup at Rockfest in Cadott, WI. I have to admit I was a little skeptical before the show. A few of our friends who have seen Buckcherry live told us that they suck in concert. I figured we had nothing to lose, let’s see what they’ve got.

Buckcherry is one of those what I like to call an all business band, without many frills. From the onset they played a wide variety of songs encompassing their library, including a few from their latest album “Black Butterfly”released in September 2008. My particular favorite was a cover of Deep Purple’s “Highway Star”that is the theme song for the Nascar summer series. They kept knocking out hit after hit without much crowd interaction from frontman Josh Todd. He basically stood in front of the band and sang. I will say he definitely has the rock star look but lacks in his ability to work the crowd.

In addition to several people saying they suck, most of the people we talked to made a point to let us know how vulgar Josh Todd is. Well, he was on his best behavior for the entire show until it came time to sing Crazy Bitch. It’s bad enough having a song that drops the “F” bomb several times, but during the chorus making up several rhyming sexual scenarios may have been a bit much. The shock value from the faces in the audience was priceless.

I will say without a doubt the show didn’t suck. The sound was good and we heard the hits. I was a little suprised after “Crazy Bitch” that “Too Drunk To F@&k” wasn’t played. Maybe they took it off the setlist because they were told to tone it down a little.

Buckcherry will be joining KISS on their upcoming 09/10 US and Canadian tour. More information will be posted as it becomes available.

Buckcherry has 3 more dates in September, the 18th in West Des Moines, IA, the 19th in Kansas City, MO and the 20th in Omaha, NE.
