Review of Slaughter at Macon County Fairgrounds – 2009

SlaughterHave you ever been to a concert where you left not knowing whether you enjoyed it or not? Being a long time concert goer I’ve attended many shows.  Most were either great or awful. Saturday night at the Macon County fairgrounds was a little bit of both. Slaughter hit the stage a little after 9:30 PM and immediately started cranking out the hits. At least I think I recognized the hits, this may be a bit harsh but the sound was awful and the volume was entirely too loud! (Yes, I can’t believe I said it was too loud!)  The group looks like they have all aged well and from the hard rockin manner in which they were engaging the crowd, they perform the way they did 20 years ago.

Another downfall besides the sound, was the length of time they played. Only playing for a little over an hour was barely a teaser. Maybe there was a time restriction and they had to be done by 11:00 PM and with two opening bands, Autumn Zero and House of Nasty, Slaughter’s performance was cut a little short. The headliner should have played longer than the other bands, but tonight that wasn’t the case.

All in all, not a bad night out. I mean how often do you get a band like Slaughter to come play in little ‘ole Decatur anyway?  Mark Slaughter even came down into the crowd and I got a “bones up” from him.  If you live in the Denver, CO area and you would like to catch a Slaughter show, they are playing on August 28, 2009 at the Grizzly Rose.  Tickets are $16.

The local band Autumn Zero opened the show. The drummer, Dave, works with my brother. He wore his Cant Stop Rockin tshirt that night. Thanks Dave!! Autumn ZeroThis was the first time we had seen Autumn Zero live. The sound was good and the crowd seemed to be enjoying the show. We had been given a CD several months back featuring four of their songs. It was nice to finally hear them in person.
