Tesla at Rockfest – Review
In the Rockfest booklet Tesla was dubbed as a “Meat and potatoes show” because it’s all about the music. I would have to agree. Being a long time fan of the band this was probably the band I wanted to see the most over the four days of Rockfest. Why Tesla wasn’t a headliner, I don’t know.
This show had no fancy pyro, no fancy stage props, just the kick ass Tesla songs we all know and love. Here’s a rundown of a few of the songs, “Gettin Better“, “Love Song“, “Signs“, “Heavens Trail, No Way Out“, “Modern Day Cowboy“, “Song and Emotion“, “What You Give” and many others. This is one of the bands, I’m embarrassed to say, that I’ve never seen before. It was probably the highlight of the fest for me. Jeff Keith, the lead vocalist, addresssed the crowd with every song which helped you relate to the songs even if you weren’t familiar with the music.
Rob Thomas, the lead singer for Matchbox 20 who performed later that day, is a class act. Not only did he put on a great show later, but he made it a point to give Tesla the respect they deserve in his opening remarks when he said, “It’s an honor to share the same stage with acts like Tesla.” Boy he said a mouthful. It was great to see an authentic act that has been around for years still getting thousands of people to stand on their feet and sing their songs word for word. I’m glad I was there to witness it!
Our Rockfest neighbor Autumn and her sister Mel got the opportunity to go back stage and visit with the members of Tesla before the show. They said the guys were great and very friendly. Tesla even autographed one of our Cant Stop Rockin T-shirts and Mel gave it to me. Thanks Mel !! Here are some pictures from backstage.
