In 2007, the first year for the festival, 30,000 people attended. In 2008 that number increased to 55,000. I would expect that number to be even higher in 2009 with the announcement of some of rock’s biggest artists in the lineup. Tickets go on sale Saturday, February 21, 2009 at 10:00 AM ET with VIP packages that include tickets, hotel accommodations and festival merchandise. ROTR is also featuring an on-line recycling trade-in program this year in effort to “Go Green”. Fans can recycle their old cell phones and MP3 players for “swag bucks” which can be used to earn free tickets and ROTR memorabilia and offcial festival merchandise. Brian and I saw Motley Crue a couple of years ago on the Carnival of Sins tour and the show was very energetic. Tommy Lee’s drum solo was fantastic and the on stage antics were very entertaining. The only complaint is that Vince Neil’s voice wasn’t at it’s best that night. The lyrics he missed, the crowd didn’t. Everyone was singing along and having a good time. I have seen video footage of recent shows and Vince’s voice seems to be fine. Maybe he was having a bad night? We didn’t get to go to a Crue Fest show but I’ve read some good reviews.

We also saw Hinder in 2007 at Rock Fest. It was raining during the show, but that didn’t stop anyone from enjoying it. Austin Winkler, the lead singer, ran through the crowd giving everyone high fives and interacted with the crowd during the whole show. Austin actually reminds me of Steven Tyler, not because of his voice, but because his mannerisms are very similar to Tyler’s. Does anyone else think that or am I just weird? I definitely want to see them again. Their new album “Take It to the Limit” was released on November 4, 2008.

Theory of a Deadman, aka TOAD, released their third album “Scars and Souvenirs” on April 1, 2008. My daughters love these guys, I guess I might have to take them to their first concert.

We have seen Trapt and Motley Crue before and they were both great shows. Motley Crue was in the summer of 2005 during the Carnival of Sins tour. Vince Neil’s voice is not what it used to be, but we didn’t care. The words he missed, the crowd didn’t. The stage show was full of fire, circus performers and Tommy Lee’s drum solo was awesome!

Trapt we saw as an opening band for Nickelback in March of 2006. They were very good then and I would love to see them again. They have a sound all their own and they are full of energy on the stage.

The second stage will feature the video game Rock Band and fans will have an opportunity to play the game on the second stage as a vocalist, guitarist, bassist or drummer. They are also going to give “Rock Bands” the opportunity to battle it out for the chance to play on the concert stage between acts. Anyone who competes is automatically entered to win a 2008 Lotus Elise. Very cool car !!

The ticket prices vary depending on venue, but to give you an idea, it appears that the lawn seating starts at $30 (some venues even less if buying a 4 ticket block) and GA standing room only are around $95 with reserved seating ranging from $45 – $75. I think those are pretty fair prices considering you get to see 5 top notch bands. There are also VIP ticket Packages for around $245. The packages include :

1. 1 seat within the first 15 rows of the stage. For venues that have a GA pit, the seat will be in the first 15 rows behind the GA area.
2. Motley Crue concert shirt
3. A set of official Motley Crue guitar picks
4. A $25 voucher to the official Motley Crue on-line store.

I would love to go see this show, but the only dates near us are while we’re at RockFest. Maybe we could figure out a way to catch the Chicago show on our way to Wisconsin……If any of you make it to the show let us know how it was.
