Stone Temple Pilots Tour Dates & Ticket Info
Stone Temple Pilots is back together after 5 years and on tour! Scott Weiland left Velvet Revolver and is back as frontman for STP. The other members of the band are Dean DeLeo on guitar, Robert DeLeo on bass and Eric Kretz on drums.
For those of you wondering how the performances are going, the reviews I’ve been reading have been mostly positive. The review for STP’s performance at the Hollywood bowl on June 24, 2008 by Paul Gargano stated “There was a back-and-forth and synergy within the band that defied they ever split apart, and a musical energy that was not only palatable, but infectious throughout the 105-minute, 19-song set culled entirely from their five studio albums.”
A review of their Cleveland, OH performance on May 21, 2008 by Chris Holehouse stated “”Let’s get it started,” urged the front man with cigarette in hand, as the band quickly upped the ante with a hypnotic version of Vaseline followed by a dark vocal rendition of Big Band Baby. Weiland wasn’t his usual manic self on stage, opting for a cooler, more methodical style more suited to his 40 years of age.”
The review by Nate Chinen about the performance on May 31, 2008 in Holmdel, NJ is the only one I’ve found that was disappointing. This performance was early in the tour and hopefully the band is getting back into the groove of touring. The review stated “Scott Weiland, the lead singer of Stone Temple Pilots, had just a few words for the crowd at the PNC Bank Arts Center on Saturday night, and that was probably a good thing. Two weeks into this post-grunge band’s reunion tour, he seemed bedraggled and bushed, like a scarecrow. His first comments were barely coherent, and what came next was dispiriting. “Sometimes you make crazy choices,” he said, in a distinctly undefiant tone.”
I don’t know about you, but regardless of the reviews this is a show that I have to see for myself. Stone Temple Pilots is performing at Rockfest in Cadott, WI on Saturday, July 19 and Brian and I will be there. We’ll be sure to post our own review when we return.
